Yesterday evening I visited Westchester Emergency Communications Association (WECA) for a very inspiring talk given by Doug Sharafanowich WA1SFH on his job as Connecticut’s Section Youth Coordinator.  This is a project I would really like to see get started in the ENY Section.  One point Doug made was that the average age of the ham population is 65 years old…..if we want our hobby to continue and thrive we need to get young people involved.   We should start with Boy and Girl Scout groups (think JOTA), Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and our local teachers at both public and private schools.

As I was sitting in the audience I realized the last time I was involved with Amateur Radio in Westchester was to man a shelter for a day in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  Nice to be here under better circumstances!  I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome, and it was good to catch up with a couple old friends and make new ones.  I hope to see you all again soon!

Tonight it’s off to the QSY Society and Mt. Beacon ARC joint meeting in Poughkeepsie where I will be presenting an abbreviated talk I gave Friday evening to the AARA on the SM duties.  Joining me will be Dave KM2O (Section EC) and Mike WO2H (Section Traffic Manager), both giving input to their duties as well.   Please contact Shirley Dahlgren N2SKP at if you need any further info.

And Wednesday night I will be speaking at Putnam Emergency and Amateur Repeater League (PEARL).   Please contact Diana Ahrens KD2AEG at if you need more info.
